Becoming a SEA

If you have decided that acting as a role model for young people through the Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) scheme appeals to you then this is the place to start!

Becoming an Ambassador is a three-stage process:
Registration, Disclosure and Training


Registration
All ambassadors must complete the online Registration Form. Once you have completed this form you will be given a password which will allow you to access your activity record and amend and update your personal details.

This information is used to:

  • Gather essential contact details and relevant past experience and skills
  • Gain information which will help when reporting our progress
  • Request details of a referee who may be contacted to vouch for the potential ambassador
  • Allows STEMNET permission for their details to be kept in a computerised database (for use only for the purposes of SEAs administration and operations).

Disclosure
Once your registration has been processed you will be invited to attend a session where you can complete a Disclosure Application Form. In order to become an authorised Ambassador you must undertake a Criminal Record check by the Criminal Records Bureau to ensure that you are suitable to work with children and young people. All potential ambassadors must apply for a Disclosure through the STEMNET registered body.

 Training
Ambassador as part of the Space School The final requirement in becoming an Ambassador is to attend induction training. This ensures SEAs are equipped with basic knowledge and information that will help to enhance their work with schools. Training covers; the purposes of the SEAs scheme, information about schools, advice for working with pupils & teachers and an explanation about the role in supporting SEAs.

Following the successful completion of all three stages, authorised SEAs receive an Ambassador badge and ID card. The SEAs co-ordinator will then match up the requirements of new ambassadors with those of the schools/projects in need of help in the area. To gain an accurate picture of the work done by Ambassadors we would ask SEAS to visit the website page and complete the activity information when they work with schools. It is essential that we are informed of ALL Ambassador activity undertaken.
